In late September, Brian Love, Head of Banking and Fintech at Travillian, spoke at the Independent Bankers of Colorado’s 49th Annual Convention in Vail. In a breakout session with board directors, Love and Christian Otteson of Otteson Shapiro LLP discussed key topics including corporate governance, compensation alignment, and succession planning for community banks. Alongside Anne Benigsen, SVP and CISO at Bankers’ Bank of the West, Love emphasized how innovation—particularly through automation, BaaS, and payments—can drive efficiency and profitability. Highlighting clients like Coastal Community Bank and Lincoln Savings Bank, he stressed that attracting top talent via storytelling and bold recruitment is critical. Love also met Acting Comptroller of the Currency Michael Hsu, who noted that while BaaS has faced regulatory challenges, it holds promise as a community bank differentiator for reaching more customers.
